I can’t believe what’s happened to the place since the last time I was there. Nearly every window has been broken. It looked like people tried setting fires inside in more than one spot. The shape of the place disgusted me…I didn’t take too many photos.
The stokes house was torn down last May (2012), as were many other of the more severely damaged buildings around Peter’s Valley and the Delaware water gap. The entire house, stone wall surrounding the driveway, in-ground pool, and surrounding barns have all been 100% removed. The pool had it’s own unique ecosystem going on, so I’m somewhat sad they took that out. Though, it was (just one) contributing factor to the amount of mosquitoes in the area. The Walpack historical society sells many books on the history of the surrounding area and people. They just began making a webpage, and you can now find them on facebook.
