Green Sergeant’s Covered Bridge

NJ’s last “original” covered bridge and one of only two in the state, the Green Sergeant’s bridge almost met its end in 1960. The bridge was dismantled to make way for a “more modern” bridge. Well, the people didn’t take too kindly to the old bridge being taken down, so they caused so much fuss that it was put back together and the second bridge was built right next to it instead. So the bridge is only one way now; depending which way you’re coming from you’ll be taking either the covered bridge or the regular one.

The would-be replacement.

I almost didn’t want to do this place. Everyone’s been there…everyone knows the stories. But we were in New Hope, which is just across the River from it, so I figured why not. Not to mention I wanted to know whether or not the rumors of it burning down were true.
I’m sorry I put it off. This was one of the better places I’ve seen in a while. The inside looked like an old asylum at times, and the top level was completely grown over, since the roof was burned off.
